Voting BoothsIn today’s society, it is quite apparent that we have major problems happening in the political arena. Because of this, many Christians have completely separated themselves from any and all forms of politics. It seems there is a perception that if something is dirty, the only option is to separate yourself, hoping that it will eventually become clean. What is often overlooked though is this fact: If you want, and benefit from, something to be clean, you personally have to put some work in.

The responsibility to engage does not mean you must become deeply engrossed in politics and campaigns in order to change things. But becoming aware of the current issues, and going out and voting for a candidate that will stand for your values is a key aspect in making a difference. The only way we will help transform our country is if we actively engage ourselves. We know God is ultimately in control, but this fact does not remove us from individual participation.

Small ChurchStudies show that right now, only about 50 percent of Christians in America are registered to vote. Of those, only 50 percent actually show up to the polls. This means that almost 75 percent of all Christians in America – who could make a drastic impact on Judeo-Christian values – are not even doing the simple act of voting on Election Day. In other words, this means that ¾ of our Christian community has absolutely zero impact on who is running our community, state, and country. When you look at it that way, it’s no wonder our country is in such bad shape! If you are worried about our country’s future, there is one obvious key to starting to turn the tide: Go vote.

God has given us a tremendous opportunity to impact our country’s future. We need to acknowledge that call and personally respond. The only way we will turn our country back to God is by having His own people engage to elect strong, moral leaders who will steer our country in the right direction.

As Christians, God has bestowed upon us the responsibility of being salt and light in our world and our country. Yet nowhere are we commanded to be salt and light everywhere besides the political arena. We have the ability and the moral obligation to influence our government. We should not throw that away.

Vote Buttons

Election Day is this Tuesday, August 5th and again on November 4, 2014. Our country is in dire need of Christian involvement. Look at your ballot and do some research. Understand which candidates will represent our Christian values in the best manner. Make a difference and go vote on Tuesday.

The only way we will change our country is from the inside out. God does and always will have the ultimate outcome in His hands. However, He has given us the opportunity to impact our country in a big way. And as John Quincy Adams once said, “Duty is ours, results our God’s.” Your journey to positively influencing the political arena starts with just one vote.
